John Humphreys was selected to play for Caernarvonshire against Rhondda Schools on 20th February. The team lost 20-0. With 14 of the players coming from Frairs and John Brights Schools, John was the only local to play that day.
This is another photo of the Pwllheli Grammar School senior rugby side from November 1965, following their 23-0 victory against Holyhead Comprehansive School. It's a pity that the quality of the photo is so poor, but you should still be able to make out some of Pwllheli's players that day. Some of these in time were to play with some distintion for Pwllheli Rugby Club. Just to help you out their names are included below.

Games were arranged against HMS Conway, Caernarfon, Harlech and Machynlleth amongst others during the 60s. There were some notable victories sprinkled within some pretty heavy defeats. Whatever the result it was necessary to write a report of the match for the Caernarfon and Denbigh Herald. RMH was the official 'sport correspondent' of Pwllheli Grammar School. He was Mr R Meirion Hughes son of the Rev. and Mrs R Gwilym Hughes, 21 Cardiff Road.
Meirion himself was firmly in the spotlight of the Christmas Edition of the Caernarfon and Denbigh on December 24th 1965, as he had fractured his collar bone playing against Harlech. He went to hospital for an x-ray and missed six weeks of the season.
Home matches were normally played at the Rec on Saturday mornings. On this particular day, a week before Christmas 1965 the weather was so bad as to make it more or less impossible to handle the ball. The game carried on regardless. Pwllheli took the lead against 14 men of Harlech through Terry Owen's try. John Humphreys added another just before half time. The victory was sealed with Pwllheli's third try in the second half.
Upon reaching the Pwllheli Football Club's changing rooms at the end of the match it was found that the hot water system had broken down. There was nothing for it. Five brave Pwllheli players could be seen running across Cardiff Road and jumping into the sea in their togs. The names of the five has been recorded in biro on the bottom of the newspaper report. The five were; Terry, Jonesy, Dic Goch, Rhys and Dafydd Edwards.
February 1966 saw Pwllheli Grammar School scoring their third successive victory against Llandrillo College. It was Pwllheli centre Wil martin who opened the scoring early on pushing himself over on the blind side near the corner and scoring again with exactly the same move on the other touchline. The score stood at 11-0 at half time after David Thomas scored Pwllheli's third try, converted by Gwynfor Hughes. Pwllheli finished off their opponents with two further tries from hooker Emyr Huws and lock John Humphreys.
The 1966 season finished with games against Uxbridge Secondary School, Middlesex. The final analysis shows 10 victories from 21 outings. Below is a list of players for the season :

John Humphreys and Eric Baum were selected to play for North Wales Secondary Schools against Monmouth on Saturday November 4th 1967. John must have impressed in that game as he was selected to play for the Monmouth, North and Mid Wales team against East Glamorgan at Cwmbran three weeks later. He was one of only three youngsters from North Wales to be selected, the others being, John, V Morris of Llandudno and D Cunnah of Denbigh.
