Ian, captain of the Ysgol Glan y Môr side (and deputy Head Boy) was selected for the Welsh Schools Trial. On the 22nd November 1980 he was a member of the West Wales team who played against East Wales in a full trial for the Welsh Side. He was the only player from North Wales to be selected. He was also on the substitutes bench for the final trial at Rhumney on December 6th 1980.
